Turkish Lawyers Reviewed The Outline Of The Human Rights Training Programme

On 11-12 April 2019, in Ankara, the Joint Project on Strengthening the Capacity of Bar Associations and Lawyers on European Human Rights Standards (SCoBAL) organised the first Working Group meeting on the development of a human rights training programme for lawyers.

International and national consultants together with the representatives of the 7 pilot bar associations and the Union of Turkish Bar Associations discussed the outline of the 2-day training programme and focused on both its content and methodology. The participants from the Ombudsman Institution and Human Rights Joint Platform also contributed to the discussions.

The meeting focused particularly on key adult education methodology and innovative training techniques, which were demonstrated through several try-outs. During small group discussions, the participants considered the relevant international standards, national legislation and the case-laws of the ECtHR and Turkish high courts to be referred in the training modules and materials.

Under the Project, the Council of Europe will train 5000 lawyers on human rights across Turkey.
