Project organised Study Visit to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg

Representatives of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and pilot bars visited the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France on 31 May – 02 June 2022 in the scope of the final study visit organised under the EU-Council of Europe Joint Project “Strengthening the Capacity of Bar Associations and Lawyers on European Human Rights Standards”.

The visiting delegation headed by the Vice President of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (UTBA), Sibel Suiçmez, was composed of representatives of the UTBA and all seven pilot bar associations (İstanbul, Ankara, Mersin, Diyarbakır, Trabzon, İzmir and Van) of the Project.

The participants of the visit were informed about European Court of Human Rights and various units and departments of the Council of Europe. The representatives of Secretariat of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), Data Protection Unit, HELP Unit, Secretary General for Migration and Refugees, Cyber Justice and Artificial Intelligence (CEPEJ) Working Group, Secretariat of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), Committee on Artificial Intelligence, Social Rights Department, Venice Commission, Human Rights and Biomedicine (CDBIO) the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Trafficking in Human Beings Division (GRETA), Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights Department and European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) made presentations with the aim of informing the visiting delegation about the role and functioning of their respective units and departments.

The delegation also had a meeting with Ambassador Kaan Esener, the Council of Europe Permanent Representative of Türkiye.
